The Chiropractic Model of Health Care:
"From backache to Spinal Hygiene"
First let's look at the dental model of health care. This could best be summed up as "from toothache to dental hygiene." Years ago a person only saw a dentist for care of a painful tooth or maybe a broken tooth. The dental profession has done well at educating us to try to prevent problems with our teeth through using proper dental hygiene (periodic exams, cleanings, home instructions, early treatment of potential problems).
Just like dentistry, chiropractic has been educating patients to try to prevent illness. Chiropractors certainly see people with neuro-musculo-skeletal problems (neck pain, back pain, arthritis, etc). However, our focus must be preventing problems, maintaining proper structural balance, and trying to stay well. Therefore, our model of health care can be summed up as "from back ache to spinal hygiene."
You would want the following chiropractic spinal hygiene services available to you:
| Examination and treatment of neuro-musculo-skeletal problem (neck pain, back pain, sciatica, disc problems, headaches, etc.) | |
| Information to attempt to prevent re-occurrences of those problems through exercise, nutrition, and other home instructions. | |
| Ongoing treatment of chronic conditions. Including efforts to try to prevent significant flare-ups. | |
| Exam and manipulation periodically (at least once a year) if you are pain free. | |
| A system oriented nutritional approach with recommendations for the musculoskeletal, digestive, immune, cardiovascular, and urinary system. |
Dr. Bertram offers all these chiropractic preventive ("spinal hygiene") services
